A great looking store in a thoughtfully restored post-war building
Built: 1958
Restoration: 2012
Developed by: Bjørn Bangsund

There are always lights on in the windows of Bjørn Bangsund in Strandgata 3, known to the locals as “Trygdekontoret”, as it used to house the office for social welfare.

In recent years the building has been completely restored by Bjørn Bangsund, and only smaller restoration jobs still remain.

Bjørn rents out first floor of the building as apartments and is the owner of one of the best run stores in Vardø on the ground floor. Everything from equipment for the fishing industries to suitcases for travellers are being sold here.

Trygdekontoret is a building typical of the post-war architecture in Medtbyen.
