VARDØ RESTORED is a multi-skilled team working in conjunction with the management of the Varanger Museum Iks Vardø department.
Its areas of competency include town planning, architecture, cultural history, business development, traditional handicrafts, storytelling and digital communication.
Some of us live and work in Vardø, while others are based in Tromsø, Bergen, Stavanger and Berlin and carry out our work in Vardø across over shorter stays. But we all have one thing in common: a deep like for Vardø and for the passionate locals who make sure Vardø is a kickass place.
VARDØ RESTORED is a cooperation between the local businesses in Vardø and national governmental departments. Having high quality partners brings about the knowledge and economical conditions for success with a top quality project. Our supporters are essential to the long term goal of restoring historic buildings in Vardø and promoting healthy business development within.
Vardø Restored would like to thank the following national and regional bodies for their fantastic cooperation: Varanger Museum, Vardø Municipality, Finnmark Fylkeskommune, Directorate for Cultural Heritage, Fund for Cultural Heritage, The Norwegian Coastal Administration, Arts Council Norway, NDR Restoration, Nordnorsk fartøyvernsenter, The Oslo School of Architecture and Design.
VARDØ RESTORED´s work is based on a “people first” philosophy where the focus is placed on the people who own and do business in cultural heritage buildings. Through their engagement and passion for their city, local forces in Vardø are the key to a successful city development.
Thus the people behind each building are included as a central and necessary part of the restoration process. This is achieved through a process of participation where the project group is physically present and listens actively to owners´stories, visions and challenges.
VARDØ RESTORED is stimulating business development and opening a new chapter in Vardø’s cultural heritage.
Vardø is the only city of Finnmark with an intact pre-war structure in a historical city centre. This makes the city nationally unique.
VARDØ RESTORED is a city development strategy implemented with deep respect to the city´s uniqueness, rich cultural history and local business initiatives.
